Delhi. Pictures. The adventure continues
(by Svöbi)
Hi all!
So now, after a week in Delhi, I am quite relaxed again. Ludek, Hyneks father, went off to Ladakh, with his niece who happened to be nearby. Hynek is just giving his movie the finishing touches so we can all see it tonight. I already saw the first part of it, and it really is good. So you might stumble across it some time...
Delhi is an enjoyable city. I had to say this because of all the bad things one tends to hear about it from other travellers. It has many nice places, and I am not talking of the tourist sites, because I didn't have time to visit them yet. That's reserved for one of the next times.
The car got a tune-up, mainly a mechanical check, new pressure horns (they need more power, still not loud enough. I will see after that), and new light bulbs. 100W, heheheh. We still have to figure out where we can get the roof done so it can accomodate a tent, but we will manage. I got myself some sunglasses with "power lenses", which means I can see sharply now. They measure my normal glasses and then make sunglass lenses according to those specifications, and it really worked out well.
Otherwise, the climate is simply devastating, right at the beginning of the monsoon, humid, and 45 deg C or more during the day, with no significant cooling during the night. But soon this is over for us, before it gets even worse.
I didn't manage to take any pictures of Delhi, I just wasn't in the right mood for it. One has to avoid any activities which lead to even more dehydration, so even taking out the camera is exhausting. I drink about 4-5 litres of water a day, and nothing comes out. I see now why Cholera is so bad when it occurs over here...
Tonight will be the screening of Hyneks movie, and on Tuesday we take off again. This time it will be slower. More time for an even longer distance, a new and completely different stage of the trip. Another theme (travelling and exploring the different societies on the way instead of car transport), different people (The Cruiser and me being the only constants), different regions (Central Asia instead of Balochistan), and a different time frame. Also different visa hassles, and all this bureaucratic crap, of course.
There's pictures from the first leg, by the way, from Switzerland to Delhi. Feel free to browse and comment.
As always on www.schlatter.net (Our web sponsor, hehe. The only sponsor we got so far):
The pictures are far from excellent, many of them taken out of the driving car, sometimes through the windshield. All with my digicam. If you would like to see slides, you'll have to come to us when we get back.
That's it for now, the next mail might well come from further north. Or from Lahore, our next stop.
Enjoy the summer
Matthias
