Dharmasala, 19.08.03

Hello everybody

I am going to write in english, cause ther are some non german speaking friens on my list....

So. After I could finally get out of kashmir, which was more difficult than going in, it took me 3 days, cause on the first day, the road was blocked, and on the socond day we drove directly in some riots on the streets (a huge crowd of people armed with sticks beating up everything which would come close and than we had some troubles with one bike (of one of the israelis I was travelling with) so we hooked it to my bike with a rope and we drove back to Srinagar to let it fix. than on the next day we could make it to some hill resort about 100 km before Jammu, and then on the next day we made it to Pathankot in the State of Punjab, there I went on my own to Amritsar to see the golden Temple of the Sikhs, which is worth a visit and a very nice place to stay, but it was verz hot and humid (more than 30 degrees even at night). than I continued to the wagha border (the only road between India and Pakistan) and I witnessed the spectacle when they take down their flags at night (there are about 5000 peop;e on each side who are shouting and singing in blind patriotism for their country). I spent the night at Atari (which takes you back to the good old times of the home computers with the same name... there is no place called amiga, he he he)

and then, it was a easy journey on good roads to Dharmasala (the exile government of Tibet is staying there, and of course the dalai lama)

Unfortunately the monsoon stroke in hard, and it was raining the whole evening and this morning, but it is getting clear again, and maybe there will be some sun today.

Anyway, it is a nice place to stay, some kilometers above dharmasala itself in a village called dharmacot, with nice guest houses and with a fast internet connection, and of course the place is invaded by hundreds of israelis, which are, once you know them a bit better, not that bad persons...

So, in some days I will continiue to Chandigarh and then back to delhi to hang out some days in Hyneks flat and to let fix everything on my bike, and to put a bigger pulley to the rear wheel, to make it a bit faster... cause on the flat straight roads of the south, this could be very useful, and the enging does not turn in such a high speed as it does now when I am riding fast...

OK, so I hope everybody is fine back at home and you will probably hear some news of me when I am back in Delhi...

Cheers

Martin
